Meet Jae

Hi there, I’m Jae, a Bay Area-based therapist dedicated to supporting individuals, couples/polycules, families and communities as they navigate the rich complexities of our increasingly interconnected lives.

I bring a grounded, warm, and deeply curious presence to my work, infused with my authentic (and sometimes delightfully awkward) humanness. Try as I might, a blank slate therapist I am not—I tend to be direct yet gentle, results-oriented yet patient, and I’ll almost always laugh at a perfectly timed sardonic remark.

My approach is rooted in a humanistic, person-centered, trauma-informed framework. I am inspired by feminist principles, queer liberation theory, gender affirmation, and sex positivity, and will always advocate for racial and social justice.

Every therapist has their own approach to helping you meet your goals. Here are a few things that tend to be a bit more infused into my life and my work.

~ Person Centered – Humanistic – Strengths Based – Trauma Informed – Sex Positive ~

Narrative Therapy

Often our lives can be seen through the lens of a series of stories we tell about ourselves–even the ones we aren’t aware we are telling.

– What are some of the stories you tell about yourself? Who was telling them?

“At any given moment, you have the power to say: This is not how the story is going to end.”
~ Christine Mason Miller

Attachment Theory

Examining how we respond to others and how our caregivers responded to us can reveal valuable insights into our patterns of connection in romance, work, and with loved ones.

– What qualities or traits do you value in close relationships?

“Relationships are not static but an ongoing flow of harmony to disharmony, rupture and repair, connection, disconnection, and back to connection again.”
~ Jessica Fern

Family Systems

There is a reason we ask about your past, it’s because we all have one, and whether it was amazing, or horrible, it usually helped play at least a small part in who we are today.

– In what ways has your past influenced who you are right now?

“There are no individuals in the world only fragments of families.”
~ Carl Whitaker

What’s next?

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, even on your best days, and nearly impossible when you’re struggling. I understand that a strong, comfortable therapeutic relationship is one of the best predictors of success. That’s why I offer a free no-obligation consultation to see if we’re a good fit. If it doesn’t feel right, I’m happy to provide referrals to other skilled therapists who might be a better match for your needs.
